Morris dancing, like gardening, is deeply rooted in community and the turning of the seasons. Traditionally performed by rural workers, it has seen a revival in recent years. This garden is inspired by this living tradition and my journey with Heaps Morris. The design centres on May Morning, the most important date in the morris calendar, when dancers meet at dawn to celebrate the return of the sun. Native flowers, grasses, shrubs and climbers whirl around a Maypole, highlighting their benefit to wildlife. Bells chime and ribbons flow in the breeze, evoking the joy of a meadow morris dance.

Through this garden, I hope to inspire conversation about folk traditions and their connection to the natural world and I hope it helps you feel your roots too.
